  • Mike Simmons, Executive Director of Maintenance and Operations


    Mike Simmons is originally from Center Hill, Florida where he graduated in 1986 from South Sumter High School. He attended the University of Tampa on a baseball scholarship and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Health/Personal Fitness in 1991.   While attending the University of Tampa, Mr. Simmons was named to the All Conference and All Region teams as a pitcher.  He also played in the 1990 College World Series.   


    He began teaching and coaching in the Sumter County school system where he was a Middle School head football coach at Wildwood Middle and a Baseball coach at South Sumter High School.


    Mr. Simmons has coached numerous sports.  He has been head baseball coach, head softball coach, and head Middle School football coach.  He was also an assistant football coach for 5 years.  In 1998, he was head baseball coach at West Nassau High School where he was named Coach of The Year.  Mr. Simmons was also named Coach of The Year at Brantley Co. High School in 2001, 2002, and 2003, where he was head baseball coach. He was also named Coach of The Year while head softball coach Brantley County High School in 2002 and 2003.  He has been head baseball coach at East Ridge High School and was named Coach of The Year in 2005. He was named the 2002 AA State Baseball Coach of The Year in Brantley County. His teams have won 7 Region Championships in addition to, State Runner Up in 2002 at Brantley County. Mr. Simmons won over 200 games as a baseball coach before leaving to go into administration.


    In 2004, Mr. Simmons earned a Masters of Education from Troy State University, followed by a Specialist degree in Ed. Leadership in 2010. Mr. Simmons taught several different subjects over the years before moving into administration in 2008. During his time in administration he has served as graduation coach, assistant principal and principal. Mr. Simmons has been married to his wife Vicki who is a counselor at Irwin County for 20 years and they have 4 daughters.




On February 7, 2016, Mr. Mike Simmons, Director of Maintenance and Operations served on the Comprehensive Facilities Survey Team for Lee County School System.

This team met with the responsibility to review the Local Facilities Plan for Lee County Schools verifying compliance with all applicable laws, SBOE rules and guidelines, and making recommendations that insure equal educational opportunities for all students.

It was Mr. Simmons pleasure to serve on this team to help a neighboring district.
